Government Runs Out of Digital Converter Box Coupons, Now What Can You Do?

We have been bombarded for months with all the ads, announcements, scrolling text and other means to let everyone know that as of February 17,2009, if you have an analog TV and pick up your TV stations using an antenna, and if you do not buy a converter box for each set you have in your home, you will not be able to get the signal anymore.

In my last article I told you about many of the advantages there will be in this switch to the all digital broadcast. There will be more stations you can pick up and in general the picture quality will be much better. The converter boxes which cost between $40.00 and $80.00, of which you can find many of them for $50.00 or less, are required to pick up the signal. However, to make life easier and to help reduce the cost, the government set aside over 1.3 billion dollars for the distribution of coupons worth $40.00 each and has offered each household 2 coupons.

Obviously the more analog TV sets you have the more boxes you will need, but just knowing that 2 of them could almost be paid for helps ease the financial burden for many. The problem is that the government just announced that they have run out of coupons and people who apply for coupons are now on a waiting list.

On top of all this, of the 46 million coupons that have been distributed, only 18 million of them have been redeemed. So, here we have millions of household needing coupons, and 28 million people that received coupons have not even redeemed them yet. Since the coupons expire in 90 days, the concept is that those who get on the waiting list will receive their coupons on a first come first serve basis, as the older coupons expire.

There is talk about Congress passing legislation to authorize additional funds for more coupons. If this were to happen, then coupons would become more readily available.

So what can you do if you can't get the coupons before the date? First let me tell you up front that if all your TV sets are analog, and you don't have cable or Satellite TV, or if you don't have a digital TV with a built in digital tuner, or if you don't have any type of A/V equipment with a built in digital tuner, you won't be able to pick up the broadcasts at all.

Now, here is what you can do. Keep checking the government website, http://www.dtv2009.gov, to see if there is any new news about the release of more coupons. After that, you can still go out an buy the converter boxes and like anything else you buy, look for the best price. They all do pretty much the same thing and yes, some have more bells and whistles they others.

Another thing you might consider is if your TV is getting pretty old and you would consider getting a new one, prices for a new Digital TV set have come down considerably. I have seen some great deals out there, so be sure to check Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco, Target, K-Mart and of course Best Buy and HHGreg. Plus I have seen some great buys online including Amazon.com.

Another option you have is to purchase one of the DVD Recorders that have the digital tuner built in. Panasonic and Toshiba our two companies that make them and you can get them for as low as $120.00. Amazon.com has several you can look at. If you buy one of these you will not need a digital converter box for the TV and you be able to record programs on the DVD recorder.

For those of you who have cable TV, you already know you won't have to do a thing. You can hook up as many TVs as you want and still get the signal, even without the box, at least for now. If you Satellite TV and you have a couple of TVs in the house that don't have a set top box or DVR, there is an A/V and an RF output on the back of the boxes that you can run wires from to an analog TV, and you will be able to watch whatever programming is coming from that box, on the other TV as well. Of course in order to change the channel, you would have to go into the room where the box is located, but at least you can get the signal that way.

There is a rumor out there that the government may extend the date past February 17th, but it is just a rumor, at least for now. The idea is that it would give people more time to get their coupons. So, if you waited too long to get the coupons , don't wait any longer to get on the waiting list. Go to the website listed above and sign up and you will even be able to track the status of your order.

Digital TV Converter Box

A digital TV converter box is just what it sounds like. It's basically a box that will sit on top of your television that will take an analog signal that you receive through an antenna and convert it to digital. What a digital TV converter box does is also make your picture clearer and crisper. These are becoming more popular because of the cutoff date for broadcasting channels to start sending their signals in only 100% digital and cutoff the analog transmissions.

Beginning at midnight on February 17th, 2009 all broadcasting stations such as your local channels will start broadcasting in 100% digital signal which means you will need to have a digital tv converter box if you still want to receive signals. The reason they are doing this is to improve picture quality for everyone but also to free up more airwaves for emergency signals as there are more available in digital compared to analog.

If you currently are a cable or satellite subscriber you should not have to do anything to start receiving the digital programming, however if you do receive signals from just an antenna (usually the bunny rabbit ears), you will need to get a digital converter box.

These units will range anywhere from $25 for an Insigna model all the way in upwards to $200 for top of the line models. The major difference in the two will be how many features the unit has, but they will both do the conversion for you. You may also qualify for a $40 coupon if you currently receive an analog signal to be used towards the digital tv converter box.

How to Install a Digital TV Converter Box in Your RV

Recently, I was asked the following question. I need to install a Digital TV Converter Box in my RV. Does it go on the television or does it connect to the Video Distribution Center Box that allows me to switch my TV's from satellite/antenna and or cable?

ANSWER: Here is the information you need to install a Digital TV Converter Box In Your RV

What You Need To Do Before Installation

If you have determined that your RV's TVs do not have digital tuners, then you will need 1 Digital TV Converter Box and one extra length of cable (length of cable depends on far the TV is going to be from the DTV Converter Box) for each TV. If you have a VCR that does not have a digital TV tuner, then you will need a converter box and extra length of cable for that as well (more on this later).

When purchasing the converter boxes, make sure that they include the option of Analog Pass Through. Analog Pass Through allows analog signals to pass through the Digital TV Converter Box when it is turned off. If you are hooked up to cable at an RV park, or if you want to watch a video or DVD the converter box should be turned off (not unplugged) so that the analog signal will Pass Through the converter box directly to your TV.

If you do not get a Digital TV Converter Box with Analog Pass Through you will have to install A/B switches and basically be creating an installation nightmare for yourself.

Things You Need To Understand Before Installation

Most RVs have a video switch box with buttons and/or knobs which allows you to choose different video sources for each of the TVs in your RV. These boxes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. But usually you have choices such as Antenna, Cable, VCR, DVD, Satellite, etc.

On the back of the Video Switch Box you will find a lot of cables coming into the box and leaving the box, do not let these cables intimidate you. We will only be worried about the cables leaving the Video Switch Box that are going directly to the TVs in your RV.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not install the Digital TV Converter Box on the cable going from your RV's Antenna to the Video Switch Box. Depending on the type of antenna your RV has, there could be 12 volts running through that cable and it will fry the Digital TV Converter Box the minute you turn it on.

Depending on how the Video Switch Box is installed on your RV, you may have to start moving things around to get to the back of the box where all of those cables are located. Due to different configurations in each RV, I can't tell you how hard or how easy it will be to get to these cables on the back of the Video Switch Box.

The back of video switch box will have labels on each of the cables that are either going in or coming out. The cables you are looking for are going directly to your TVs they will have labels such as "TV1 Out, TV2 Out, etc." or "To TV1, To TV2 etc." or "TV1, TV2 etc." Again, the labeling will vary by manufacturer. The Digital TV Converter Box will be installed on the cable leading to your TV from the Video Switching Box. Where you put the Digital TV Converter Box on this cable depends on where the TV is actually located.

The Digital TV Converter Box should be installed right next to the TV that you are going to be using it on. Digital TV Tuner Boxes come with remote controls to setup the box and change the channels. So if you are installing the Digital TV Converter Box on the TV in the bedroom located at the back of the RV you do not want to have the Digital TV Converter Box at the front of the RV. Remember, the Digital TV Converter Box has to be plugged into electricity to work.

Installation Of The DTV Converter Box

OK now comes the fun part actually installing the Digital TV Converter Box on your TVs. Depending on how accessible the cable leading to your TV is; will determine how easy the installation will be. Here are the supplies you will need to complete the job for each TV.

1. Digital TV Converter Box.

2. 1 extra length of TV cable (length of cable is based on how far away the Digital TV Converter Box is from the TV). You should have enough cable to reach the back of the TV from the back of the Digital TV Converter Box.

Usually the TV located in the front of the RV is the easiest to install. If the front TV is located right next to the Video Switch Box, then all you have to do is remove the cable that is leading to that TV from the back of the Video Switch Box and attach that cable on the "TV Out" port on the back of the Digital TV Converter Box. Now take the extra cable you have and connect it to the "TV out" port on Video Switch Box and connect the other end to the "Antenna In" Port of the Digital TV Converter Box.

Now we get to the work intensive part of the installation. If your RV has a TV in a bedroom located at the back of the coach, you may have to do some digging to get to the cable that is hooked up to the back of the TV. In most cases the TV is built into a cabinet. Your task is to get to the back of the TV to get access to that cable. I am not going to try to tell you how to take the TV out of the cabinet, because the way they are installed varies by the type and model of your RV.

Once you get to that cable on the back of the TV the actual installation is simple. Remove the cable from the back of the TV and attach it to the "Antenna In" port on the DTV Converter box and take the extra cable and attach it to the "Out To TV" port on the DTV Converter Box. The other end of the cable gets hooked up to the "Cable In or Antenna In" port of the TV.

Special note on VCRs

You can hook up a DTV Converter Box to your RV's VCR, but you really should not do it as the VCR will be limited in its operation. The VCRs built in tuner will be useless and recording programs will require that you use the DTV Converter Box to manually change to the channel you want recorded. With the cost of the DTV Converter Box being from $40.00 and up, you can get a good VCR with a built in digital tuner for the same price.

Setup And Operation Of The DTV Converter Box

Now that the hard part is done, the setup and operation of the DTV Converter Box is relatively simple. If my instructions confuse you, you can always refer to the owner's manual that came with your Digital TV Converter Box. Here are the steps you need to follow to get your tuner set up.

1. Plug the DTV Converter Box into electric (you would be surprised at how many problems occur when this first step is not followed).

2. On the DTV Converter Box, should be a switch that allows the box to transmit a picture to your TV either on channel 3 or 4. If you cannot find this switch, refer to the owner's manual.

3. Turn on the DTV Converter Box.

4. Now turn on your TV and tune it to the channel you chose in step 2.

5. You should now see a menu on your TV screen. The menu will vary by DTV Converter Box Manufacturer. If you do not see a picture, ask yourself the following questions. Is the DTV Converter Box plugged in and turned on? Is the TV tuned to the right channel? Do I have the Video Switch Box set to Antenna for this TV?

6. Now that you have a picture you need to run a channel autoscan, using the remote control for the DTV Converter Box, find the Channel Autoscan Option. Again refer to your DTV Converter Box User's manual, if you cannot find this option.

Important Reminder: Every time you go to a new location and use your RV antenna, you will need to use the channel autoscan option to find the channels in that area. Also moving your RVs antenna around could help you find more channels. Some of the DTV Converter Boxes have built in signal strength indicators. Move your RV antenna until you get the strongest signal.

7. Once the autoscan is done you are all set. You can now use the DTV Converter Box Remote Control to choose the channels you want to watch or choose other options from the option menus. Depending on the brand of DTV Converter Box you bought, you might have a ton of other options you can choose from to enhance your TVs picture, resize the picture to fit your TVs screen, enhance the sound on your TV etc. Refer to the Owner's Manual for your DTV Converter Box for what options are available.

Special Note When you are not using the antenna to view TV. Turn the DTV Converter Box off (do not unplug it), so that the analog TV Pass Through is activated, that way you can use the TV to view Videos, DVDs, Cable like you did before you installed the DTV Converter Box. Remember you have to change the source for that TV at the Video Source Selector Box in your RV.

I urge you to read the Analog Pass Through section of your DTV Converter Boxes Owner's Manual, so you understand how it works on your particular box.

Hopefully, this has helped you get your RV setup to receive Digital TV.

Samsung Ln52b750 - Does the Samsung Ln52b750 Live Up to the Hype?

As your TV starts to show its age you're probably thinking about getting another one. There are many brands of cheap TV's out there but you want a good one. The Samsung Ln52b750 is probably your best bet for a living room TV. Obviously if you're still using a tube based television then you will be delighted to own an LCD TV. After all what's not to love about them?

Samsung is Located in South Korea and is based there as well. Samsung is one of the world's best electronics companies and markets their products all over the globe. As we get closer to the switch to all digital airwave broadcasts we are coming to the realization that our beloved CRT based televisions are becoming obsolete. Unless you have a converter box of some kind that giant behemoth in your living room is soon to become useless.

If you're a little confused here's a breakdown. CRT stands for Catheon Ray Tube; this is what older TV's use. HDTV stands for High Definition Television and is the standard for most new TV's. Compared to CRT, HDTV's are capable of very crisp, clear, and sharp images. Most programs and games when viewed on an HDTV will have a noticeable improvement in overall picture quality.

Many people are buying HDTV's for another reason altogether, they are smaller. Many LCD TV's are only about one fourth as deep as an equivalent tube TV. AS you can see this is quite a perk since this opens up many new positions for TV placement. Now keep in mind the width and height are unaffected, a 52 inch TV is still going to be 52 inches.

Now we look at the Samsung Ln52b750 technical specifications. This is an LCD TV measuring 52 inches in screen size. Samsung has equipped it with both tuner types so you can watch digital or analog. Its 49. 6 inches wide, 33. 8 inches high, and 12 inches deep. PIP is included on this model.

Measurements taken above are taken with the TV stand attached. The TV is surprisingly light for its size coming in just under 70 pounds. Screen resolution can go up to 1920 X 1080. The display has a response time of two milliseconds and the format is 1080p. There is 1 ten watt speaker on either side of the unit rounding out the stereo sound system. The unit is also energy star certified with a power consumption of around 190 watts.

Coaxial, Hdmi, Component, Composite, and VGA inputs are all supported. If you can find something that you can't plug into it, write Samsung I'm sure they will be surprised. Price can vary from place to place but this model generally retails for an average of 2500. 00 dollars. Samsung isn't a cheap TV brand that expects you to buy everything separate, the stand and the remote are included.

In closing when you go to choose a replacement TV keep the Samsung Ln52b750 in mind. It would look rather nice in a large living room, or bedroom. It's a funny thing though; HDTV's can also double as computer monitors. If you have the room you can hook your pc up to it.

Boxing Memories Of Past Years

Boxing has been around for a very long time. During the great history of boxing were some amazing matches. These matches showed the true heart and determination of the human soul. They also show the power and skill that some boxers possess. It seems that these traits can not be found in boxers these days. I have watched quite a few boxing matches lately, and I have yet to see a match that is even close to measuring up to some of these old boxing matches. I am only going to look at one of my favorite boxing memories that I had when I was a kid, but I could discuss many more. The boxing match that I can remember very vividly in my mind was the Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns fight.

The fight between Leonard and Hearns was one for the ages. Hearns was a big puncher and caused quite a bit of damage to Leonard's eye. However Sugar Ray would not quit fighting, and hurt Hearns during the middle rounds. By the thirteenth round Sugar Ray was way behind on all of the judge's score cards, however the match was about to change. Sugar Ray landed a barrage of punches to Hearns' head, and he staggered backwards. Sugar Ray kept charging and knocked Hearns through the ropes onto a table outside of the ring. You would think that this would have ended the fight, but Hearns had enough heart to keep fighting. Sugar Ray would eventually finish the fight in the next round when the referee stopped the fight by technical knockout.

This match would have lasting effects on both boxers' careers. Hearns would leave this match and go on to win many world championships, but this fight would always linger in people's minds as a blemish on his career. Leonard suffered a detached retina in this fight, which caused him to retire for the first time. Leonard would later come back two different times and fight for another ten years. Leonard also went on to ink many endorsement deals after this fight, and Hearns always believed the reason he did not get many deals of his own was because he lost this fight.

The Truth About Digital Conversion

Everyone has seen the television ads. "Get a converter box, and everything will be fine." Unfortunately this is untrue for about 15% of Americans who live in rural and mountainous areas. People in these areas have enough trouble getting analog signal because of the obstructing mountains. What the government is failing to express is that residents of towns such as Idaho City may be out of luck when February 17th rolls around.

The problem in Idaho City is that, even with converter boxes, antenna televisions cannot pick up the new digital signal because of the mountains which block and bounce the signals away. The town does have a small local cable company. The problem remains. Even cable companies, with their larger antennas, still cannot pick up a digital signal if the signal is being hindered by mountains and rough terrain. The same case is true for many Western areas that have lower populations and higher mountains.

So, what happens on February 17th when the switch happens? Thousands of people, even with converter boxes, are going to come home from work, flip on the TV, and find themselves with a blank screen. How is digital a better form of technology if it isn't even capable of reaching so many Americans? Why should it be mandated? These are all questions that Idaho City residents, and many others, must think about every day, and unfortunately there are no good answers. There is also no way for these residents to think about satellite television. There are no big satellite providers in the area. The local cable company has several dishes, and can offer subscribers some satellite channels, but no local ones. The cable company can't do much, because any rate increase would break the backs of residents, many of which are on fixed incomes. There doesn't seem to be a solution anywhere to be found.

It is true that the majority of people are not going to be affected by the switch. The switch will provide better quality pictures without any cost except for the converter box for those with older analog television sets. People who have cable or satellite, for the most part, do not need to worry at all. For many, who have analog sets without cable or satellite, this is a great time to consider getting more channels.

Satellite users will not be affected on February 17. All stations will be available clearly. Many people who still only receive local channels through an analog set do not realize how affordable satellite providers really are.

Perhaps through this forced conversion, people will begin to open their eyes to the benefits, which can be had in subscribing to satellite TV through a company such as Direct TV. Service is affordable, with many different channel packages starting from only about $30 per month. That's a reasonable rate-less than most phone bills. Using DirecTV satellite television, one can be assured that, rain or shine, on February 17th, TV will be available.

How Many Solar Panels Do You Need For Residential Solar Power?

The first question that many new solar panel buyers ask is: how many panels do I need? First things first, let's review some basic terms electricity terms you're going to come across when shopping for residential solar power.

The most basic measurement of electrical power is the watt. Since this amount of electricity is so small, you'll find most appliances rated in kilowatts. A kilowatt is simply 1000 watts of electrical power. Electric companies often use kilowatt hours to measure power usage. A good example of a kilowatt hour is if you left 10 100-watt light bulbs running for 1 hour (10 bulbs x 100-watts each for 1 hour = 1000 watts for 1 hour = 1 kWh).

Next, we have a volt. A volt is a measurement used to describe the force at which electricity flows from an electrical source. Plug outlets with higher voltages produce more electricity. This is why you have 120 Volt outlets and 220 Volt outlets. You also have amps, which is the measure of strength the electrical power has in a wire or device.

There are a few factors you need to consider when deciding just how much solar power to purchase. The first thing you need to do before you buy solar panels is look at your electric bill and your trends over the past year. Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior. The average American household uses around 1000 - 1200 kWh a month.

Has your electric use risen? Have you downsized your electric use? Most solar experts agree that it's better to buy too many solar panels than not enough. The most common solar panels measure 4' 5" by 2' 2" and are rated at 120 Watts at their peak power. At this rate, one panel will produce 1.04 kWh per day at its peak power. For the average household (consuming 100 kWh per month) to become completely solar powered with 120 W panels, they would need to buy around 32-34 panels.

Another factor to consider when buying solar panels is the climate your home is located in. Residential solar power systems are most powerful when they are located on climates where they receive at least 6 hours of peak sunlight per day, and obviously, no shading. If you purchase a mono-crystalline solar power system, any shading (even over just one part of the panel) will stop energy production. Conversely, a poly-crystalline solar panel can function if a part of the panel is shaded, but these panels have lower outputs than mono-crystalline. You should buy mono-crystalline only if you know for sure that you will not have any shading whatsoever.

Another type of panel is called "amorphous". Due to amorphous panels' lower efficiency of only 6-7%, you usually have to buy twice as many panels. For homeowners with smaller roofs, this can be a limiting factor to buying amorphous panels since they quickly run out of installation space!

Residential solar power is always getting better as technology gets better. These days, there are panels rated well above 120 watts. They cost more but you can buy less and get the same result. No matter where you buy, make sure you carefully consider your future lifestyle habits and how your energy habits will change. The company you purchase from should carefully counsel you on your needs and different advantages of each system.

How to Choose a VOIP Phone Service Provider

Everything is going digital these days... cell phones, cable, radio, and now TV. So, if anyone thinks that traditional landline phone service is here to stay, then they are kidding themselves. VoIP phones service is slowly taking the place of traditional phone service and soon traditional phone service will become obsolete; the question is not if, but when.

Not all VoIP phone service providers are created equal and it is important to know what to look for when choosing a VoIP phone service provider.

Consider how many and what type of calls you make.

Most VoIP services cost between $25 and $40 per month for unlimited local and long-distance calls in the U.S., and many include Canada, Puerto Rico, and US Virgin Islands. Most cable companies that offer VoIP service cost $5 to $10 more per month than VoIP specialized companies like 5 linx (Globalinx) and Vonage.

Some VoIP phone service providers have lower international rates than others, so make sure that you check out the company's international fees for the countries that you will be calling. Also, be sure to determine the costs you will pay for international cell phone calls, which are not included even in all-inclusive international calling plans.

Consider if the VoIP phone service provider sells VoIP phones. Having a VoIP phone is very beneficial because you can take your phone wherever you go (even outside of your country), hook it up to a high-speed internet connection and instantly make and receive phone calls. Your phone number goes with the phone so you do not have to worry about forwarding a number.

Find out if the VoIP service provider offers E911

VoIP service providers are compatible with what is known as E911.

The major difference between E911 and 911 is that with 911 the dispatcher automatically knows where you are calling from, but with E911 they have to go by the location that is on file with your VoIP provider.

Make sure that when you move, you update your new address with your service provider. Also make sure that you activate E911 with your service provider when you receive your VoIP phone.

Keep in mind that E911 availability depends on your location, so you'll have to verify availability with your service provider. Unfortunately not all VoIP phone services are compatible with E911, but most cable companies that offer VoIP phone service and independent companies such as Vontage, and 5 Linx (Globalinx) are compatible with E911

Hidden costs

Most VoIP phone services include an adapter, but not all do, so be sure to check when comparing plans. Many services charge fees up-front for setup and/or shipping equipment.

Local number portability

Most companies allow customers to keep their original phone number, although sometimes it is not possible depending on the local service. Some services do not allow this at all.

Compatibility with other equipment and services

For now, not all home security systems, TiVo boxes and satellite TV receivers work with VoIP. That is why you may want to consider a VoIP service provider that has teemed up with other wireless and digital service providers to give you the option of having digital services that work along with their VoIP service.

5 linx (Globalinx) is the only VoIP service provider that offers a security system through Protect America (a leader in wireless security systems) that is completely compatible with their VoIP service. 5 linx has also partnered with Dish Network and Direct TV to give you more options to use with their service.

Multiple lines

Multiple-line options are limited, since most services only allow one line per converter box, but some services have multi-line offers that are excellent for businesses that want to switch over to VoIP phone service.

Fax compatibility

Not all services support adding a fax machine. AT&T CallVantage, for example, does support fax machines. Vonage and 5 linx however, charge an extra $10 a month for a separate fax line. Check first if this is important to you.

Using Coupons

Using coupons is a shopping trend that is becoming increasingly popular these days. People are learning to be more frugal and are using coupons to help them save quite a bit of money. With the economy down many people are struggling financially and using coupons is a great way to keep expenses down and still be able to afford to buy groceries and other items. Here are a few tips when it comes to using coupons.

-Tip #1: Clip coupons from the newspaper, especially at the beginning on the month. There is a great deal more coupons at the beginning of the month in newspapers and at online coupon sites. This is due to companies targeting sales right around the time people get their paychecks and are more likely to do more shopping. Put out the newspapers early in the month and find lots of great deals.

-Tip #2: Get a coupon loaded loyalty card from the stores you shop at. ShopRite, Safeway and Kroger all have these programs set up, as well as other stores. You can load up coupons onto your card digitally and when you go through the check-out line the cashier swipes your card and the eligible coupons are automatically redeemed. This definitely saves on the hassle of carrying lots of coupons around with you.

-Tip #3: Do not get scammed. With the increased popularity of coupons there is also an increase of fakes. If you are printing coupons online, make sure you use reputable sources such as RedPlum and SmartSource.com. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You really have to be careful when looking for deals on the internet.

-Tip #4: You can call a manufacturers' 800 numbers (often found on the packages of your favorite products) to request coupons. Over 1/3 of manufactures do not send out coupons unless requested. So if there is something you want coupons for be bold and ask for them.

Start using coupons and you will begin to see the savings add up. It will take some time and organization, but soon you will get the hang of it and become a pro at using coupons whenever you shop. Who doesn't want to save money? The opportunity is there, you just have to take it. So, the question I have for you is "What will you do differently to guarantee your success in this?"

Imagine managing your money well! What would that do for you? Don't know? Imagine getting ahead of the curve and not just living paycheck to paycheck. Can you imagine the freedom? What you'd expect - Peter D. Rodrigues - Oakland, Ca
These are on the cheaper end in terms of construction and thus in sound quality. That said, you get what you pay for and operate as you'd expect. I got some feedback when connecting my laptop to an audio receiver, but it is manageable.

Good Cable - N. L. -
I've been using it for a while and have been happy with the sound quality. Good sound, good price.

Cheap and good quality - Yi -
Great stereo to RCA. Probably the cheapest that had prime so hence why I purchased it.

Works great, I connect it from my laptop to my 5.1 home theater system and it works like a charm. Also works with my Iphone and my Nokia E63 phone.

Digital TV - Best Way To Go For Entertainment

If you still watch TV on a conventional set with an antenna, well, bad news. Your TV will go dark in 2009, unless you take action. So, keep pace with the new generation developments and stay ahead.

Digital TV (DTV) is a newer form of technology used for sending television broadcasts to your home. It is more flexible and efficient than analog television. It allows a much clear picture, better sound quality and more programming choices than analog TV.does. It also allows each local station to offer up to five or six separate programs free of cost. In addition to this, you get on-screen TV listings, true widescreen picture and red button interactivity. All you need to obtain a set-top converter box in order to allow your analog TV set to receive digital broadcasts.

The biggest advantage that digital television has is the fact that it consumes very little bandwidth space. It lets digital broadcasters to provide more digital channels. The UK government wants to serve the best to the public and digital television is a supreme example. Lowering price of digital TV is one of the steps taken in this direction.

If you want to buy a digital TV, cash back sites would be the best option for you. Many cheap digital television offers are available on these sites which will enable you to earn money in the form of cash back. You can also find lucrative offers and latest digital TV price on these sites.

Thus, it is quite obvious that digital television is widely accepted now because of its advantages. Though it also must be understood that being a recent invention, it has certain shortcomings too which will be eradicated by the time. Buying digital TV is certainly a good idea if you have the foresightedness.

What is Off-Air TV Multi-Path Interference and How Do You Deal With It

DTV (Digital TV, including HDTV) today is available over-the-air using a standard antenna or via digital cable or satellite. However you receive your TV signal, you will need DTV equipment to decode and view the SD, ED or HD quality DTV programming. DTV equipment today may be purchased as a one or two-part solution. Integrated TV sets are a one-part solution - a digital tuner and monitor all in one, just as TVs always have been. A "HD Ready" TV set will generate a HD picture. But does not have a digital decoder included. The two-part solution consists of a DTV monitor paired with a DTV receiver/set-top box/tuner.

The correct digital age off-air (free-to-air) antenna installed and aimed properly with a wide enough beam width (searching area) will receive the desired local stations it's aimed at in range. The more powerful the antenna, the further from the towers the antenna can be located, up to 70 miles or more. This is, provided the antenna has clear line-of-sight to the desired towers.

Some people living in the metro/urban areas have a problem to deal with called Multi-path (bounced signals). TV signals bounce off many things, such as buildings, hills, tress (especially Pine trees), even off room walls inside the TV reception room in the case of indoor antennas. Multi-path signals reaching the antenna out of phase (bouncing) can confuse the ATSC (Digital) chip set in the converter box or tuner in digital TV sets. If the signal reaching the front of the antenna is not 2 to 3 times stronger than a bounced signal from the same station reaching the back of the antenna, the ATSC chip doesn't know which signal to use, so it just keeps searching.

The answer is to up-grade to a new digital antenna, tuned to receive digital signals and help reject Multi-path signals, one with a high Front-to-back ratio. F/B ratio has to do with the antenna's ability to cope with multi-path signal propagation from the TV station towers to the receiving antenna. The higher the F/B ratio is of the antenna, the better it is with multi-path rejection.

The point here, is that the right DTV/HDTV antenna, considering the role reflected signal plays, is not an option, it is now a requirement. Most of the DTV/HDTV antennas returned to retailers are either the wrong antenna for the location or are in perfect working order and returned because of faulty installation techniques. This means there is a huge need to educate consumers and retailers alike about receiving free Off-Air Digital and HDTV signals.

For example, in some cases, don't try to "split the difference" when pointing your antenna between two digital stations coming from different directions. If the broadcast towers are more than 30 degrees apart, use a rotor or separate antennas. When using separate antennas, DON'T MOUNT VHF ANTENNAS (channels 2-6) ON THE SAME MAST, unless they have a 10 foot or more vertical separation, and 6 foot or more vertical separation for channels 7-13). UHF Yagi-style antennas (receiving channels above 13) can usually be mounted with about a 4 foot vertical separation.

If you are going to combine signals so that you have only one lead going into your house, use a channel filter for each antenna, so as not to pick up out-of phase signals or multipath through the other antenna. Then and only then you may combine the signals through a combiner (a kind of "splitter" in reverse). And mount your antenna away from all reflective surfaces or other antennas, and as high as possible.

In the suburban area, 8 to 20 miles from the transmitter, a small outdoor antenna will give adequate reception. If the cable from the antenna to the TV set is over 30 feet in length, an antenna booster amplifier will improve reception, particularly on high UHF channels. In rural areas, 20 - 50 miles distant form the transmitter, a multi-element outdoor antenna equipped with an antenna amplifier can provide good reception in many cases, where the signal is not blocked by terrain (hills, etc.).

Depending on the level of desire to receive an excellent picture and multiple broadcast signals, considering the investment in TV entertainment already made by many viewers, they should consider up-grading to a new Digital Off-Air Antenna and loosing the rabbit ears.

Is your marketing budget too small to get you heavy-weight full service marketing, advertising, or public relations help? If you're a small company or a large one with a small marketing budget, finding creative, full service marketing, advertising or public relations agency is very difficult and can be very expensive. Getting good marketing advice and work product will have a profound effect on the future of your business. Too often, choosing one is a matter of chance, such as their proximity to you. In this age of the Internet, Instant messaging, cell phones and video conferencing, the value of proximity is over-rated. I represent clients from south Florida to Washington State.

On the surface, most look alike. But scratch the surface and you'll find some dramatic differences in philosophy and ability, in the experience of the account executive assigned to you and in his dedication and availability. And the ultimate cost to you.

This is particularly difficult when looking for one that will assign a heavily experienced account exec to your account (they pick them, not you). They write and manage the business and marketing plans for you and have a profound effect on their success. One highly experienced, dedicated marketing counselor is much better for you. What's more, it is much easier on your budget. Hire a marketing, advertising and PR consultant with many years of experience with ALL marketing disciplines, a choice that is decidedly different and better. I've worked from home for the past 11 years, without the huge overhead. My production costs in Memphis are very reasonable, so all costs to you stay very low.

Transfer Flip Videos to Windows Movie Maker

It is known to all that Windows Movie Maker is an application installed in windows system which embodies features- effects, transitions, titles/credits, audio track, timeline narration and Auto Movie; however, as the limitation of the application, Widows Movie Maker can only support WMV/ASF, MPG (MPEG-1), AVI (DV-AVI), WMA, WAV, MP3. The MP4, MOV, MIDI, AIFF, AAC, SWF cannot be imported in Windows Movie Maker directly and the export formats of it are Windows Media formats or DV AVI.

While, videos of Flip series camera are saved as MP4 format which cannot be imported to Windows Movie Maker directly, so users have to change the file format if they want to play and edit video on it.

How can users edit videos on Windows Movie Maker? To convert MP4 format to WMV or other format which can be imported to Windows Movie Maker is the best way to solve the problem. Recently, I have free trailed a new product called Flip Video Converter, an application designed for settling the problem, but the free trail would leave a watermark of it company name on the video which bothered me a lot.

Guide about how to convert Flip video?

Users can use the application convert MP4 video to other format so that they can play and edit videos on different players such as Windows Movie Maker, QuickTime, iMovie etc. Besides, Flip Video Converter can convert mp4 videos to AVI, MPGM, MKV FLV, RM/RMVB etc. and transfer videos to portable devices. Moreover, Flip Video Converter also provides basic edit functions such as adding special effect, merging files, clipping segment, adjusting parameter on video and audio and aspect ratio etc. Here take how to convert MP4 to WMV as an example.

First of all, download Flip Video Converter

1 Click the button "Add Video" to add files

The video input files the software supported include mpg, AVI, WMV, MP4 and ASF;

2 Choose the output format WMV to convert Flip video

Click the "Profile" drop-up list to open the preset profiles and click on the format to choose WMV which is compatible with Window Movie Maker.

3 Edit the video if it is necessary

Click the "Edit" button, then you can edit the video according to your favor.

You can adjust the brightness, contract and saturation by dragging the slider and add special effect to video (Gray, emboss and Old film). Choose "crop" to remove black border and adjust aspect ratio. Click "Clip", set the start time and end time to clip a segment from the video.

Tip: you can merge several files into one file by selecting check-box "Merge into one", and press "setting" to set parameter of video and audio.

4start conversions by clicking "start" button

In a few minutes, you can get the WMV video and transfer it to Windows Movie Maker for further editing.
